As a member of Teamsters Local 104 here in Phoenix, I need to pass along some information along to members of the general public as it of extreme importance, and worth a second glance.

President Bush and the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Mary Peters, are ignoring public safety by opening the border to unsafe trucks from Mexico. The American people and their representatives in Congress, are opposed to the current Bush/Peters "Pilot Program" for cross-border trucking because they understand the dangers.

President Bush and Mary Peters want to forget about the facts. As a native of Arizona, Peters should know better. We know the truth:

* U.S. trucks must antilock brake systems, Mexican trucks do not.

* U.S. truck drivers must have pre-employment safety training and drug testing from a certified lab, Mexican truck drivers do not.

* U.S. truck drivers lose their commercial licenses if they're convicted of a serious traffic violation in their personal vehicle, Mexican truck drivers do not.

* 25% of all Mexican commercial licenses are forgeries.

* Mexican truck drivers are not subject to random drug screens.

Mary Peters has brazenly ignored a law passed by Congress that ordered her to end this dangers program. We are continuing to fight to stop this dangers program. We are asking the public's support to do our part to fire Mary Peters and protect our highways. Support us and protect yourselves by doing the following:

* Go to the website www.FireMaryPeters.com and use the talking points available there to send a letter to your local newspaper's editor.

* While you are on the website you can sign up for E-Mail updates about Mary Peters and cross-border trucking.

* Please call your local talk radio programs to express your opposition to unsafe Mexican trucks. (Yes, Fox, I said call talk radio.)

Thank You in advance for your efforts for all working class families. Let's keep our roads safe !!

Its part of the north american union setup where we lose our national sovergnty.

Wait until the NAFTA superhighway is built.

In Texas its called the trans texas corridor.

But they keep renaming these freeway projects so they can vote on them again and fool the people.

Many people here on the FOX blogsite believe the gov loves them and wouldnt lie to them, so GOOD LUCK with your message to the people here my friend, but I hear ya.

It blows my mind the decisions our government makes! We have a huge problem protecting our borders. So what do we do? We open up the borders and allow mexican trucks to cross. Carrying what in the trailers???

I know some will be searched. But the trailers that are not searched. What would we find in there? Drugs? Terrorists? Illegals?

Bad decision for the American people.

I dont think you'll find the terrorist in the back of a rig.

You'll find the terrorists in washington dc.

Terrorism is a gov political tactic used to overthrow governments.

We are headed into a fascist dictatorship if the american people dont wake up to this.

Cuz of terrorism the gov spies on us now, it only gets worse, think about it.

Next month the gov is taking away our 2nd amendment right to own a gun. Thats suppose to be a God given too.

jteamaz, I generally feel safe driving alongside trucks on the highway, and I would like that to continue. Will follow your suggestions. I brought up the highway issue in a blog a while ago because I know it's a real problem. I'm glad your union is on the look out.

This is where DPS needs to be out before the sun comes up in areas close to our ports of entry. I sent an officer down to our port due to a truck driver (not from a mexico compaany) unable to speak any english. They by law have to be able to answer about 16 questions to be able to communicate with port of entry officers as well as lawencorcement officers. And they can be put out of service for not being able to speak enough english to communicate with officers. I see alot of mexico trucks being put out of service. Too bad so sad. Just so you know from what I've been told this is not all that new trucks have been comming into our states for a while. It's just in the news more now a days.

As the owner of a trucking company I am glad that jteamaz brought this point up.

For some reason there have been no REAL investigating reports on this issue. There needs to be.

Many company owners including myself have been watching the situation with great concern for years. Yes, years.

Some media reports would have the public think that trucks from mexico have not yet been allowed to run freely around our country. This is not true. Many slip through the "Strict" system of crossing the border. Once here they run the western states including Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Texas without worry or consequence. They run these states because there is little, if any, enforcement.

The claims by the D.O.T. and other regulating agencies that these trucks will have to meet standards of safety are also not true. The fact is they would like to inspect every truck coming from Mexico, but are only able to inspect 1 out 60 on average. Out of the 1 being inspected an average of 80% of the time there is something wrong that is passed because the officer inspecting the vehicles is hurried by procedure, or it may be near the end of his or her shift.

If a reporter would actually go out and do some digging, like reporters should do, the public would become aware of many FACTUAL issues regarding these illegal Mexican trucks that are currently running around our country. Do not for one second believe that they are coming. They Are Already Here and they have been for several years. Everyone needs to be concerned. We need to know where the presidential canidates sta

We need to know where the presidential canidates stand on this issue as well. I have enquired. No reply to my inquiries means no vote or backing by me or my company or several others that support the issue of not allowing these trucks free run of the U.S.

I don't know about other families, but this matters to me a whole bunch. wlkthruthesky, can you list which legislators ignored your inquiry? It's obvious all our elected reps have gotten "too big for their britches." Nothing like a short term in office to humble the proud.

Too bad Ab chelette is not alive to stand up for the trucking industry.

He was a great american in arizona.

The candidates all support a north american union and the NAFTA superhighway.

All the candidates except ron paul.

The MEDIA wont cover this story cuz they are controlled by the same interests that control the candidates.
This video proves that.

Truther is correct in his statement that none of the current canidates will address this issue with real answers.

My company has sent letters to them all. We did the same in the elections for senators and state legislators. Arizonas Governor replied in letter form but not publicly. At this point it is just as unclear to her just how many are being allowed in currently. Until the issue is brought more to light so that some difference can be made in where any politician stands on the issue none of them really know what to say about it except to repeat what they are being told by the liars that advise them.

My belief is that if there was ever a time when company owners, all drivers, and the Teamsters Union NEED to get together on an issue this is the issue. The teamsters Union holds a mighty voice. Together with compnies and line haul drivers the voice of this powerful American industry has got to start speaking or no one can hear. Until the industry as a whole starts voicing concern those that represent us in Washington turn a deaf ear. And of course the Media seems to not find it an issue that needs to be looked into so that EVERYONE can know what needs to be known.

As for where the Presidential candidates stand, Rudy Guilliani is a legal consultant to the people behind the "Super Highway". I don't know about the others.

There are many many facts concerning this issue that are not covered by most media. And the politicains that support the issue keep many of the facts quiet.

One of the facts: How many people know that when this "super highway" is operational the actual Port of Entry for the trucks hauling goods from Mexico is to be located in KANSAS CITY? This is what the planners see as the halfway point between Canada and Mexico.

It is already being constructed. When it opens all the Mexican traffic coming to the U.S. using the "super highway" will not be subject to any of the so called checks until getting to that P.O.E.. It is a long way from the Mexican Border to Kansas City!

How anyone could operate their own company, or be an owner-operator right now is grounds for a big "hats off." Especially considering the price of fuel, insurance, maintenance etc. Everyone needs to be on the same page on this, let's just hope if it gets loud enough they'll be forced to listen to us.

Getting into a company right now would certainly not ba a good business venture.

Luckily my contracts with customers are will keep the company running for some time. It takes good, trustworthy, competent, safe drivers and equiptment that is always in completely safe condition. Mexican trucks can not compete with that. Customer relations is also a top priority. Non english speaking trucking companies are not able to compete with that.

My customers are aware of the foriegn trucks that are constantly offering lower rates to move the goods that we, (my company and several others that I know of), move. To date the customers have not hired mexican trucks due to laibility and safety issues, as well as feeling as though the products being moved may not be at the destination, as planned, on time.

Many Grocery warehouses are part of my customer base. As anyone working with Grocery chains know the products being shipped on a regular basis to the warehouse are extremely time sensative. The trucks from mexico have not been able to meet those time sensative requirments.

I would like to have the opportunity to one day come to a local union hall to see what the Teamsters feel about the open border issue. Maybe in time we can all combine in some way to put a stop to the plans of allowing the foriegn trucks to take our livelyhood. All 70 of my drivers would stand with Union members without hesitation in this and other issues. Not just because of the money issues, but the safety issues as well. I would stand behind them 100%.

Not a problem. I own "Colli Star Stageline". Based here in Glendale. D.O.T. 1304245.

Colli is my wife, I of course am the STAR!

The only truck I run under that authority is the one I drive. The rest, 65, are leased to Universal Am Can out of Michigan. We pull 48 and 53' dry vans with 40 and the rest pull dropdecks and flat. My contracts are through Colli Star Stageline but are run under Universal's authority. Universal has many sister companies as well. Mason Dixon, Central Frieght, and a few others that my trucks contract with.

It was a business move I made in 1997 to cut costs of insurance.

My drivers are older, experienced drivers. Most have over a million miles. All have been with Colli Star for over 3 years.

I have been driving mainly OTR since 1985.I Started with the old Chauffers Lic. Purchased my first tractor trailer combo in 1989. Began running under Colli Star Stageline authority in 1990.

These days I stay in Phoenix most of the time. I'll take my truck out every couple of months so my wife and hound dog and me can take a "paid vacation".

jteamaz, on ur comments above, it would do no good to send comments about mexican trucks, to the local mexican herald (Az. Republic) as they are strickly a republican & mexican biased news paper,

as far as mexican trucks on our roads, ur absolutely right, all u have to do is look at the condition of their cars running around here, are in, that's why we call them greaserwaggens.... why would their trucks be any different ????

Its only going to get worse. They plan on making the freeways you travel on "TOLL ROADS".
The state of Texas is under attack with this fight already. The freeways we already paid for with our tax dollars are going to become "Toll Roads". AZ news has already hinted towards this too.
My best advise is to check up on the alternative news about it on:
www.infowars.com
www.prisonplanet.com
www.truthnews.us

Those are the sources where the news is best but the main stream media when confronted with the truth dismiss the truth by saying its a "conspiracy".

Proposal in Texas for a Public-Private Toll Road System Raises an Outcry.

The plan envisions a 4,000-mile network of new toll roads, with car and truck lanes, rail lines, and pipeline and utilities zones, to bypass congested cities and speed freight to and from Mexico.

Not much to say actually. Just a normal kinda guy. I drive a truck delivering groceries for a major food chain here in the valley. Try to keep educated on local and national events especially those concerning corruption and moral ineptitude by our "elected officials." Very much for protecting our freedoms and rights, always open to new ideas and discussions. I don't identify as Democrat or Republican, and don't like to be labeled as liberal or conservative. Just try to stay responsible and informed as possible.
