OK, so it's about 12:50 AM, and I'm still looking for some comment on McCain's speech tonite at the RNC. Last night by this time there were already several blogs popping up with a lot of comments on Sarah Palin's speech, which many characterized as a "home run." I've searched site after site, some political, some news, and I'm not seeing the same type of comments that Sarah received. Some of them are particularly harsh:

Bush's former speech writer called it "Pretty Disappointing."
David Gergen called it "Mostly A Rerun Of Old Republican Ideas."
The New York Times reports, "Some Delegates Fell Asleep."
CNN called it "The Worst Speech Since Jimmy Carter in 1980."
Others said it was neither interesting nor innovative and was the wrong speech for the crowd, and full of missed opportunities.

I watched the speech, personally I didn't think it was that bad. Predictable, absolutely. It also seems that McCain is trying to distance himself from George Bush, who has been noticeably silent these past few days. It also seems that he is painting the current Republican Party as needing some serious reform. It was also noted that the two biggest applause lines for him came when he referred to Sarah Palin. Does anyone feel that she may have actually upstaged him? Some have noted that his speech will smother Palin's sizzle like a wet blanket, and they will not get much of a bounce in the next few days. What are everyone's thoughts? Again, I thought the crowd looked pretty charged up.

It has also been pointed out that McCain was not wearing a flag lapel pin, will he receive the same criticism Obama did? What does everyone think of last night's events?

I have to say I fell asleep during his speech. The part that I heard wasn't that bad, actually for McCain I would have to be characterized it as good, as McCain is a wet blanket. Palin is the only reason I will be voting for this ticket.

I thought it was good, and it seems he put the "good ole boys" on notice.

Morning jt - I waited lastnight for the regulars at FOX10 to post something, as they did with Sarah but I ended up falling asleep waiting.

I don't know about wearing a pin, I guess I just don't notice things like that but I will say for sure, that little Logo of Obama's is hardly an American symbol. I question, Is that a part of his change plan to turn the starts and stripes into a blob of colors? I only ask because you were eager to point out a missing flag lapel pin.

As for the speach, the message was straight talk and the deliverability... well McCain isn't a flamoyant speaker like Obama or fire talker like Sarah. But overall it appealed more to the keen senses of caffenated charged listeners. The message though, was still recieved!

Do you watch C-Span? I heard a lot of Dem's say they were switching tickets.

His speech was touching, but not very convincing. He's never been that good of a speaker. Nevertheless, I still believe he will serve this country better than Obama can. I think going back to our original roots of having fewer government instead of more is vital for the health and future of our nation.

I feel really bad, I fell asleep at the very end...BUT...the content is EXCELLENT...the delivery was painful...but we have always known that is not his strong point...delivery..He will shine in debates where it is not scripted.

After being set up royally by Palin et al, all John had to do was come out and smile. Instead he came out and gave a speech.

Ruined everything.

If you stayed awake and listened to the whole thing, he said the sons and daughters of migrant workers are all Americans too. He slammed the concept of protecting our markets by taxing imports. That convention hall was psyched until he started in with his version of reality. Was that speech an intentional sleep aid?

C2G, no I didn't check out C-Span. But I was channel hopping trying to get some serious feedback and culdn't find it. It was all very "matter-of-fact" with not much of anything else thrown in. Then I tried surfing the net, still not much, the comments were really limited. And even still this morning there doesn't appear to be much on the blogs. Yesterday there were around a dozen or so concerning Palin. It seems a bit lop-sided to me and I'm not sure quite where to go with it. I'm back to work today so I'll all day to think, and catch more reaction on talk radio.

I don't think McCain is the speaker that Sarah is but then he never was and never claimed to be. I did learn more about he and Cindy than I ever knew. I had no idea she was all over the world helping poor people and nations, I'm impressed. As for Mac, I knew he was a POW but to hear some of the details was really horrific.
I do think he'll keep up exposing all the 'earmarks', even more so. He's always done that and we in AZ know for a fact we, as a state, haven't gotten any 'earmarks' because he so against them.
I, personally, don't care alot whether he is a 'great speaker', that's not what we need in the white house, we need some REAL CHANGE.
I do think, based on all the times he went against Bush and disagreed with him, that he will change the policys.......he is still better than the alternative and the more I read about Obama and his muslim connections the more he scares me.

I liked the part when he was speaking about expanding civil rights. A hush fell over the crowd. You could feel the tension. It sounded like McCain might be straying from the party line.

Some individuals prefer discourse at length in a pompous or boastful
bloviating-manner (OBAMA) to any actual sound content (Mc Cain).

Then again, there are Superficial-personalities
and there are Genuine-personalities.

~To Each Their Own~

Alas! ..... You are what you are!

I just watched this and I thought it was delivered like McCain would. He is not as eloquent as Barak so if you expected a glitter covered speech you would be disappointed. I did like his poise when the code pink facist came in, just shows again the level of disgust of some of these Liberal groups.

Jane his reference to Hispanic was to immmigrants not illegal immigrants, I listened to that twice, it is on cox on demand as well as Obama, biden's and palin's. I don't have a problem with that line.

I also thought he got more into policies than Barak so now it is on to the debates.

Nofear, I agree he did reference Hispanics periodically. I refer to the line where he inserted "the sons and daughters of migrant workers" as he named all who are Americans. That is the point on his list where I disagree. His speech was as carefully written as all others, so there's no way he misspoke. If his attitude is that migrant workers are Americans too, that would explain his intent on amnesty.

I learned new and admirable things about the McCain family too. That's nice, but not really the answer our problems right now. His politics still stink. Neither of these conventions materially addressed border crime, the fact that our industries are in distress and downsizing by the droves, or ending illegal immigration which is astounding given a national consensus of something like 80% of Americans who agree that illegal immigration is a hot-button issue. Both parties swept it under the rug, to avoid controversy before the election, but we are the ones who will be affected when the campaigns are over. Like he said, nothing is inevitable. So, now is the time to hold them to the fire, not after the election.

What is actually manufactured in the US these days? Precious little. Current free-trade policy threatens American manufacturing. For all the jobs going offshore due to free-trade, McCain, like Bush, claims he will retrain Americans to do other jobs. What other jobs? How in the hell can a paper clip be cheaper coming from China than here? I wasn't tuning into the RNC to feel good, I felt great already. Thursday was another load of empty rhetoric except that McCain had skillfully put the crowd to sleep before he started spelling out his platform. Having character does not mean you always know what's best. McCain is still pissing on the wrong tree on a lot of issues. He is not a shoe-in because he has character. He still needs his feet held to the fire.

Hey Sputter I ain't running, at least not this cycle. I was deeply involved in politics in Delaware and knew all the right people. This state is just strange. But I still think I could do a better job as governor.

Speaking of governor did you see she will be out on the road for Obama trying to get women voters back for him? I think that is a joke but I guess she may appeal to some women. :)

Not much to say actually. Just a normal kinda guy. I drive a truck delivering groceries for a major food chain here in the valley. Try to keep educated on local and national events especially those concerning corruption and moral ineptitude by our "elected officials." Very much for protecting our freedoms and rights, always open to new ideas and discussions. I don't identify as Democrat or Republican, and don't like to be labeled as liberal or conservative. Just try to stay responsible and informed as possible.
