Madonna is proposing a re-make of the classic movie "Casablanca" only with a twist. Her version of this ever endearing film will place the setting not in a Morocco being torn by WWII but in the midst of today's Iraqi conflict. So why would this be considered a re-make of the film Casablanca when it is not even going to be set in Casablanca as the original was? And exactly what is wrong with leaving a good thing alone?

You must remember this

A kiss is just a kiss,

a sigh is just a sigh.

The fundamental things apply

As time goes by.

How can anyone reproduce, with integrity, the perfection of the sexual tension between Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) and Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman)? There was a certain class and sophistication that existed in 1942 when this movie was filmed that is lacking with today's set of Hollywood actors and actresses.  .

And when two lovers woo

They still say, "I love you."

On that you can rely

No matter what the future brings

As time goes by.

The story of Casablance will always remain fresh and new to each generation who views such a wonderful story of desperation and love.  It is moving and touching and reachs out to the audience just as it is; in complete perfection, as each character yearns for the other and when faced with life altering choices.  It is a struggle to face the consequences, to make the right choice and to accept the consequences.

Moonlight and love songs

 Never out of date.

Hearts full of passion

Jealousy and hate.

Woman needs man

And man must have his mate

That no one can deny.

I cannot understand why there is such a need to take a wonderful film and change in into something that it was never meant to be.  Casablance is a story that can be told again and again just as it is and still touch the heart of all who see it with all their heart and soul going out to Rick and Ilsa and in the end crying for them with real passion and emotion.

It's still the same old story

A fight for love and glory

A case of do or die.

The world will always welcome lovers

 As time goes by.

The world loves and embraces Casablanca so please, let's just leave it alone!

Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers

As time goes by.

Leasheryn, the answer is easy, it's money. Madonna's need for it. I truly hope the movie is not "remade", you can not remake a classic. Take that time and energy and put it into your own original movie instead of stealing the thoughts and hard work of creative artist. Shame on her.

Because they know they will never have the style, the class, the mystique, the real chance to be a real actor in this life like those that made these classics..they have to pretend to be what they aren't for their own glory and self preservation..it is called big fat ego.

I agree Loo. It's called - All About Me Syndrom- I'm really growing tired of some of this group Hollywood group. Seems like they have to put their hands and noses into everything.. Always messing around with stuff!

The ones that really get me are the politcal nut cases, motivated by who knows what, and they don't even know what their talking about.

Loo, there were so many great actors and actresses like Cary Grant, Rock Hudson, Jimmy Stewart and Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Bette Davis and so on. They all had class and ability and you could believe in them; they made their characters real and believable.
I think Michelle's right. Nowadays it's all about the money and not the art. Today's generation of (so-called) actors are not only not very good but sleazy.
And Pastors right too. Actors should stay out of politics. There are too many actors in Washington already.

"Actors should stay out of politics."

Well said! But they don't and therein lies the problem.

Hey, it's bad enough when Hollywood tries to remake a classic and ends up with a big fat DUD - as was done with "Psycho" (although I did not see the remake - I didn't need to). But when it's done in the name of politics - that makes it even worse.

But you know what? People will pay to go see it.

Pssssssst...Floyd....I'm glad one actor didn't stay out of politics. RR *wink* I think you refer to actors making movies to promote their polital views and pass it off as entertainment. Right?

Back to the movie thing. Sometimes a movie does need to be updated for modern times but now when there are historical settings. Can you imagine Gone with the wind as a sci-fi movie? Wait...that might be pretty good now that I think about it! *lol* Still, I would hate to see MADonna make ANY movies, much less mess with a classic.

They're all actors in politics. I could name one for instance: Hillary "boo-hoo" Clinton. And yeah, she needs to GET OUT NOW!

Psycho was an excellent film, Floyd, and a perfect example. It was perfect the way it was but lost much in translation when it was re-done which never should have happened

Considering all her movies bombed, she shouldn't be allowed to touch a classic movie and ruin it. I don't think she'd be allowed to film in Iraq anyway and they'd be foolish to try it with a war going on.
I'm sure both Bogart and Bergman are roling over in their graves over this one.

There hase not been an original idea come out of hollywood since Caddyshack! Everything is a remake or a sequel.Even shrek ripped off fairy tales. I realized this when Jonny Depp made Gene Wilder look better than he already did as Willy Wanka. I have watched both with my 8yo daughter and she likes the original better. I guess the struggling writers are still struggling.

It's sad when there are no new stories to tell but it always says there is no inspiration or nothing left to inspire. It's a sign of a dead society when there are no new thoughts and no one to tell new stories.

I am in Sarasota and enjoy reading avidly, mostly about historical subjects and biographies. Also have travelled in England and Wales, visiting family and historical sights. I like a good conversation on nearly all subjects and, although I have opinions, am willing to listen to all sides of a topic. I believe in listening and learning so your opinions are always necessary to me.
