Well its that time of year again- time for fantasy baseball drafts and pre-season games. This is the time of year where I lose my husband for hours on end while he sits at the computer configuring his team, and fills up our DVR with episodes of baseball tonight. While I enjoy the sport of baseball as much as the next girl, I just don't understand the draw of fantasy sports. Are fantasy sports exciting because of the competition aspect, or do fantasy sports just provide talking points for when the guys get together? I've tried a fantasy league myself, but it didn't stick...can someone explain it to me?

First blog entry...

So for a first entry, this isn't very exciting, but then again, I prefer a not-so-exciting lifestyle these days!

Tomorrow is St. Pattys- corned beef & cabbage on the menu here. I tried unsuccessfully explaining to my 4 year old what a leprachaun was- I told her a leprachaun was a little man in a green suit who guards a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and she asked me "why would he do that?" I didn't have an answer for her. Lately she's full of questions- we went to "Bat Appreciation Day" at the natural history museum last weekend, and she asked the bat expert whether or not bats eat bees. (She HATES bees, and is interested in finding out what will eat them.) Sadly, bats do not eat bees because bats are nocturnal, and bees fly only during the day. This begged the question "what do bees do at night?" I don't even know if bees sleep, and I couldn't find any answers on wikipedia. Anyone know? (My daughter thinks they cuddle in their beds inside the hive.)

Its Friday! This weekend my family will make our first attempt at planting a garden...I'm going to try to grow some pumpkins. It would be cool if the pumpkins grew to county fair proportions, but with my luck, we'll end up with 100 tiny ones rather than 1 big one! From the instructions on the seed packets, we're supposed to kill off all but the largest couple of pumpkins to achieve maximum size. It seems a little cruel, but hey- they're only vegetables.

Cucumbers, carrots, and a bunch of flowers will fill in the rest of the garden. I'm soliciting any advice for a successful bounty. Also, advice on how to keep peacocks out of the garden. (Is there such a thing as a scarecock?) Need some pickle recipes as well...

Thats all- nothing news worthy here, just random stuff!
