WE ALL HAVE TOO MUCH MONEY!

Now that I have your attention, let me explain what I mean.

I hear a lot of people moaning about not having health insurance. Has anyone ever stopped to think how much money people waste these days on frivolous crap? By crap I mean,

Cell Phones,

Computers,

Internet (broadband),

Video Games,

DVDs,

MP3 Players,

Big Screen TVS,

Cable TV,

Cell Phones for KIDS,

Eating out 4x a week,

and all the other stuff we just dont need to have!

That's right, we dont need to have these things! Buy them if you want but when you dont have the money to buy health insurance, go look in your livingroom at your new 61" Sony and tell me if it's worth it!

Our parents and grand parents, didn't have all the extra crap we now see as a "must haves"! They also had plenty of money  for things like insurance and a word most people have never heard of.......SAVINGS! I don't have a cell phone, my video game is a used PS1 and my TV is a 18 year old 27" Sony with a great picture on it! My only luxury is this PC and my FiOS. Ok ok, I do a classic car in the garage but I have had it for 28 years! So when it comes to money for insurance, I have nothing to moan about.

LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS PEOPLE!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go put some money in my savings account!

Pretty much. But cell foans are now a safety item and computers are becomming a universal necessity.

I have to remove gas from my lawn mower (not a rider, not self propelled) so I can drive to Walgreens for my meds.

Vit,
By any chance those meds are psychotropics? Cell foan? *lol*

Why is a cell phone a safety item? How did our parents get along without one? I did say I had a PC(obviously) but I do not have all the trappings of the "keep up with the Jone's" lifestyle people are living now days! I never in my life have owned a pair of tennis shoes that cost more than $45! I have never felt like failure because I didn't buy a new car every 3 years! Face it, people in general spend too much money on crap they don't need! Spend that extra money for HBO on insurance! Screw what's happening on the Sopranos!

I'm with you, but in our perilous, modern world a cell foan IS a safety item. I use my home foan line for internet access only. I hardly ever want to talk to anyone anyway, if I do, I call them.
I downloaded the "boop boop beep, I'm sorry, the number you have reached is not in service" message from the internet and have it as the greeting on my answering machine. Maybe the Florida Troopers Association, God freaks, survey takers, and my ex wife have gotten the message.

Cell phones - you don't have to have service on them to reach 911 and they don't have to be turned on for 911 to find you (as long as the battery has a charge and is installed).

Computers - we would all probably be better off without them. This comes from me - a web developer and novelist.

Live within your means - What choice do I have? I have no credit cards. I refuse to get a loan for anything - including a house. Cash is King - despite what Visa would have you believe.

Vit,

Ok...I might let you have the safety thing but only if your spouse feels scared to be out on the road alone.

Jab,

But using what extra money ones has for something like insurance, is a lot better than getting that next great gadget or service! I still say that if mom or dad actually COOKED 6 days a week, instead of getting take out, they could buy any insurance they need! Oh...and it might cure the obesity problem we have too!

$3.30 for a pack of Pall Mall
$6.00 For a six pack of Naty-light
$600.00 a month for a 4X4 pick up truck
$100.00 a week gas bill
Having the taxpayers pay for my family's health insurance, food and rent.

PRICELESS!!!!

Bravo, Stang!! Back in the old days, people had responsibility and priorities; they could also look out for themselves and didn't have to be dependent on a cell phone to get them out of trouble. A cell phone is more like a security blanket but, if you are on your own someplace and in trouble and depending on a cell phone, how long does it actually take for someone (ie police or ambulance) to come to your rescue? Let's get real!!

In the main, people spend too much one crap and don't have priorities anymore. If you can live without it, you don't need it!!

Please forward all the extra cash you do not need to me.

$$$ is the root of all evil and my mission is to save souls.

Look at the $$$ you send to me as "seed" money...YOU will be rewarded TEN FOLD!!! Send me a dollar and you'll "Mysteriously" get TEN in return. Send me a HUNDRED and you'll get a MILLION!!!!

My wine supply is shrinking and the price of Kobe beef is out of sight , I need some help. Thanks, you will not regret the investment.

Leasheryn,

I'm glad you get the gist of what I'm trying to say here. I'll agree that a cell phone is good thing to have. My whole rant is on the fact that today, there are too many "extras" eating into our budgets that our parents and grandparents didn't have. I'm not saying to live without life's good things but as you said, people dont have priorities! If you dont have to buy something, don't. The fact is that most people would be able to buy their own insurance if they didn't have the wallet leaches sucking them dry.

YD,

I'm not sending any extra money to anyone. Any extra goes into the bank. You'll have to settle for Maddog 20/20 and eating Angus beef while watching Japanese anime! *lol*

Thou shall not live on credit, but will use said credit card in a responsible manner and pay off the balance each and every month... Thou shall continue to purchase a new car every ten years providing I can PAY CASH for it!!! Thou shall keep thy residence in a FREE & CLEAR statis........ Thou shall not be roped into the Jone's catagory.... Thou shall be kind and helpful to those less fortunate and donate, contribute and tithe in a responsible manner. Thy "SEED" shall ONLY be planted in a worthy garden. Churches that fit in the catagory of "WITHOUT SOULS" - Without Walls type thieves need not pontificate!!!!!

I am in absolute agreement with you mmustangg. I pay my bills and save for life after work firts, then I decide how much "play" money I have.

The sad news is that our legislators in the House have apporved a $15B measure for the housing crisis. That is tax dollars going to bail out those that chose to live beyond their means.

PD,

I'll have to think about that whole seed planting thing.*lol*

flgirl,

A lot of those people who are in trouble with mortgages were sucked into the market looking to make a quick buck! They see programs on cable like "Flip That House" and "Property Ladder" and they think they can "invest" in real estate. What they failed to realize is that if you are not comfortable with losing it, don't risk investing it. Investments are not a sure thing as they go up and down. Only saving money produces reliable long term results. We shouldn't bail out "speculators" but what choice do we have?

We need to get our state leaders to mandate fiscal education in all grades! Teach kids the realities of money and how not to fall for the traps of "get rich quick" schemes and the "got to have it now" mentality!

"Never sacrifice sure footing for a quick kill, or you might be the one losing their head!"

You whine like a broke b1tch who is pissed that you don't have the amenities that your neighbor's have. My cell phone replaced landline. My mp3 player has replaced a large c.d. collection. Cable t.v. eliminates the need for a dvd collection. Big screen eliminates possible future eye problems. My video game collection replaces the urge to strangle rednecks such as yourself. B.T.W. without internet you wouldn't have been able to cry online. MP3 and DVD are art that we own NEVER SAY THERE IS NO NEED FOR ART. That takes away from what makes us human.

stang, it's the advertisers that make everyone think that they have to have. It's called "bandwagoning". They make you believe if you are not on the bandwagon, you are nobody and nothing. It's a ploy to get their hands in your pocket but most people don't realize that they are being suckered out of their money quicker than they can make it.

Personally I'm appalled at the way advertisers reach out their hands. At the moment, they have their hands out for the tax rebate (stimulus package) before anyone even has their money in hand. A lot of people are planning to either save their money or pay off bills but their going to be convinced to spend it instead of putting it to use, usefully.

It's all about greed and stupidity. And the greedy know exactly who the stupid are. As they say, A fool and his money are soon parted.

Exile,

You are tredding on the edge of delete. I say that only because insulting people like you were the cause of our weekend lock down.
Believe me, I'm not pissed that i dont have a big screen TV or a friggin iPod. If you want to go spend your money on extra crap, by all means go for it! I said that in my original post. I'm just saying it's people like you that DO NOT need the government to pony up for your healthcare when you should be buying it YOURSELF! People like you are a drain on society and have no right to complain. Judging by your other blogs and replies, you are full of complaining, among other things. BTW, I hope we cross paths someday so you get your chance to strangle me. You are an all talk kinda person. Me on the other hand, I speak from logic and you cant fight it with all the insutls you can muster! Nice try though.
Oh...one more thing. Dont lecture me on art. I make my living from it. I have created more award winning art than you have seen by accident!

Leasheryn,

Greed and stupidity is one post above you! I love how he thinks I'm broke when I know I have more money than he has. If anything, it's because I don't have the makeup bills he has!*LMAO*

Frank,

As our pale blogger so sadly missed, it's ok to have those things as long as you have the means to get them and still not have the governmet pay your important obligations.
