Mustang's Corral

As an icon of weird story telling, Stephen King has made our skin crawl and our hearts pound, but not like mine is now! Why? Because I'm hopping mad at this goober!  Read the quote below, watch the clip and join me below that.

At a writers symposium for high school students Stephen King said...

"I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV but the fact is that if you can read, you can walk into a job later on.  If you don't, then you got the army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that.  It's not as bright.  So that's my little commercial for that."

WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING? Is he really calling our troops illiterate and stupid? This is the kind of elitist crap that fills the liberal left! This bobbleheaded bookworm owes his very livelihood to people willing to defend his freedoms to the death if necessary! I know Mr King has suffered head injuries lately but has his brain slid out of an open wound or something? A few years ago I reached a point where the brainless boobs of entertainment caused me to make a list (in my head) of the people I just wont watch or patronize anymore. You know, your basic Alec Baldwin, Barbara Streisand, Rosie O'Donnell types. Welcome to my list Mr King! You are among the best of the worst now!

Sometimes, the truth hurts. At my pre induction, we were all required to take a test. Sgt Kink informed us that we must pass the test to qualify to serve. To pass the test, one is only required to sign their name. If you cannot sign your name, someone will help you. You cannot and will not fail the test.

Unless things have changed drastically since 1969, I feel that scenario is still valid. However, one can get a great education in the service, so there's 2 sides to King's statement. Most high school drop outs I knew did enlist. Most that survived ended up doing very well indeed. Enlisting has always been an alternative for a poor education; it's not a dumping ground for low achievers.

True Vitt. Not everyone enlists because they are illiterate and stupid, but it IS a great opportunity and one readily available option for those that are.
If I recall, John Kerry said something similar and this is the response he got from the troops.

vit,

I think you can chalk that up to a little sargent sarcasm! For Mr King to back-handedly call our military a buch of illiterates while they are fighting in Iraq, is unconscionable! Show some freaking respect! Remember what these kind of comments did for John Edwards!? Ruined him huh? Mr King needs to stop reading his own fantasy books and get caught up on reality!

Stephen King was spot on! Can you please list any RWNJ arseclown war mongers that you know of that served the armed forces in a conflict situation. Did your boy dumbya? Did Dick? Did dumbya's brain Rove? Did Limbaugh? The list goes on...and there is a reason for that!

Smart people do not choose to go to foreign lands and kill people. Psychos, those less endowed and are trying to prove something, the illiterate, and criminals running away from jail are what you find in the armed forces! Anyone with half a brain can find a job making a better compensation package than what the government offers and not have to put their life on the line or be required to kill people.

See my post: What A Choice...Jail or The Army!

FTP,

When you need defending, hang a red flag on your door so they can pass you by and allow you to die in peace or go find your defenders of freedom in Hollywood!

Smart people know when it's the right time to go to a foreign land, and yes, die for something they know is right! Sadly, you'll never be that smart but will benefit from those that are.

God bless our military, past present and future!

Iraq was and still is a "smart" war?

Yes, you once again show the lack of intelligence associated with the RWNJ's.

Do yourself, your family and your nation a favor and spend the $14 that Amazon.com charges for the book By R. Buckminster Fuller, "Critical Path" and at least read pages 60 to 120, then get back to me on your smart war BS!

Get back to me when Barbara Streisand puts her life on the line defending you. If you cant find her, she'll probably be with Stephen King!

Trust me on this son, Barbara Streisand and I are at extreme opposite ends of our beliefs and what we support. All you would have to do is read a post or two of mine to figure that out einstien!

But, as is par for the course, being backed into the logic corner, the simple minds turn to applying what they hope are disparaging labels to those that are superior to them!

Opposite ends? Is that why you say the same insulting things that she and others in Hollywood say about people serving in the military? My whole blog is about Stephen King insulting the militaty and then you come in makng the same insulting insinuations. Insinuation that people like Barbara and Alec and the other Hollywood left make! So don't cry conservative to me when you align yourself with the likes of those boobs!

And I would say you are the king of labels. You use RWNJ like it was the sword Excalibur only it ends up being a rusty Swiss army knife with chip in the blade! It just doesn't cut it! *lol*

I now dub the "Sir Avery, King of Labels"!!! Rise Sir Avery!*ROFLMAO*

At least you try hard. I'll give you that much.

No, the sarge wasn't kidding. Probably didn't know what sarcasm meant. I think he was one of those of whom Mr. King spoke. One guy in my group had a wooden leg. Really. He laughed in Kink's face. Quite a show erupted with Kink's veins almost popping out of his forehead. I saw this and couldn't help laughing. I almost peed in my pants. The more he yelled and flexed, the funnier it got.

So pegleg and I got taken away; still laughing. He dropped his pants and showed an officer his leg. I showed him that I had joined the Navy that morning. Lord, was he pissed. The last thing we heard was Kink geting a dressing down as we left the building.

It IS possible to support our troops but not Bushe's "war". That's my stand. Send them to Afghanistan and really kick some ass.

Vit,

I never said a single word about where the troops are or were or should be. Sadly, neither did Mr King! He was calling them illiterate just for having joined the military! THAT is disrespectful to you and every other person that's ever served!

Your pre-induction story was going great, right up to the wooden leg bit. Why would a guy with a wooden leg have to drop his pants to show anyone? Raise a cuff yeh but not drop trou! Unless you are claiming he had a wooden thigh and two good feet?*lol*

We were lied into a war and some people get ticked over somebody mentioning that one had better get an education or your options are few?

How about making a list of all the people that sent us into this 'self-financing war'? That list is very long. Those politicians are who have no respect for our military.

I guess it's easier to make a short-list over fluff than that long list we are all paying the price for?

MO

The only lie that's for sure is the one Saddam told the UN when he let them think he had weapons he shouldn't have had! I guess all those UN resolutions were for show huh? Wait,....they were! I'll say it again, it's Saddam's fault we called his bluff when the UN wouldn't do anything to back up it's resolutions.

The fact remains that Stephen King called the troops illiterate just for joining! If you agree with him, you are just as bad!

Stephen King is a washed up hack and needs to give up writing. He hasn't written a good book in years! What was that last novel come movie again? "The Mist"? Wasn't there a movie called "The Fog"? How original! Sounds like HIS literacy is slipping!

Those quotes are hard to argue aren't they? I didn't think you'd try to.

I didn't like "The Mist" either. Tho there are big differences between "The Mist" and "The Fog". The new version of "The Fog" is pretty cool. Tho, I thought the original was more suspenseful. But we have way cooler effects now ;)

I agree that the military is a great option when your options are few. Learning to read does give one more options. Whether in the military or civilian life.

Poor choice of words on his part? He did get run down in the road a while back. He does seem a bit darker of late and this war has ticked off a lot of people on both sides of the issue and aisle.

MO,

No offence but 90% of the links in here, I ignore, so no I didn't even look at the quotes. If they are not your words on the topic, I'm not interested. Mr King's quote IS my topic.

I'm not even going to rent "The Mist", much less watch it. The trailer even sucked if you ask me. "The Fog"(original) was a good movie but only for that Adrienne Barbeau chick. No...not her acting.*lol*

I did mention in my original blog that King had suffered some head injuries but do you really think he's not accountable for his words? I know the war has ticked off a lot of people on both sides. Believe it or not, it's even ticked me off. I think we should have gone in there with 3x the force and got it over with! Do you think the democrata would have supported that? Hell no! I think the President's biggest mistake with the was was trying to keep the left happy while fighting it! "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war", that mean's all the dogs! Not just a few! However you cant starve the ones you set loose either!

Not many defend the "war to hang saddam" any more, so keep it up stang, your reinforcements are thinning as we speak.

King was and is a WEIRD duck; how else could he write the bizzare stuff he comes up with.

Lots of really bright kids join the army nowadays, it's not like it was in Nam, Vit, when the draft drug in everybody and the one's with connections or $$$ or continuing graduate degrees kept them out of the rice paddies ( Dumbo the Draft Dodging Non-Flying Fool tricked everyone by just NOT showing up for duty) ...it really helps when your daddy is George H.W. Bush.

That was a lame brained statement from "Mr Weird", but who cares what a Hollywood freak says anyway?

Sorry MO....I told you if it wasn't your words, I wasn't interested in the quotes. Anyone interested can go to the link you provided. Just trying to keep it slightly on topic. Before you go getting your knickers in a twist because I deleted that, just notice I left the link.
