Does anyone remember this area's support for the Bucs in their early years? Many years went by that we could not see the games on TV because they were not sold out. Wasn't it maybe for 15-20 years? It takes a while to build a fanbase.
Well, we are in the process of building that fanbase for the Rays. Look at the kids in this area and you will see the future of the Rays. Many of them support the home team and it will just take a while longer for them to get their parents on board.
Start by watching a game on TV. You will see some awesome baseball. The players we have on the field here are some of the finest in the game, even if the team's payroll is one of the lowest. For my money, the Rays organization really knows talent. I watch these players and I see many of the stars from my youth: Bob Gibson, Ozzie Smith, Tom Seaver, Pete Rose (before the downfall), Hank Aaron,...
This is our time, Tampa Bay.
To the Rays organization, I say be patient.
To the media, remember this area's history with baseball. No,you don't have to be cheerleaders, but give the Rays air time.
To the moms and dads and their buds and bffs, pay attention to the kids. Summer is coming up. Go out to a game. It will build some lasting memories. I remember mine.
Thanks,....Go Rays!
