Some people say America is blessed, and after eight years of George Bush, a president who believes God is on his side, we should truly be blessed.  But, rather than assuming we are blessed, we must ask ourselves how blessed we really are.

2005

17,700 murders in the US.  17,700 people cruelly killed by their fellow men and women.

God Bless America!

2005

75,000,000 people in America are struggling to make ends meet.  36 million of them live below the poverty line.

God Bless America?

2008

One of every 100 households is facing foreclosure.

uhhhhhhhhh.....

Please, God, don't bless us any more.  We can't afford it!

What do you think?

Can Americans continue to ignore reallity and continue to live as though everything will just "work out fine", or is it time for a change?

These estimates are based on a web search of US demographics.  They were not altered or chosen to support one view or another.

How much of the current situation is due to the sins of excess ? No bible thumping here Norty, but I believe it applies. First you have your own liabilities and then you have those others have created for you. Off the top of my head, we'll use the Federal legislators, when you have excessively too mant there is much in the way of some sinning being done. The only real problem with ending this type excess is a few legal hurdles, namely the legal authority to dispence with this issue in a fast and cost effective manner. The fast and cost effective has already been worked out, it's that issue of proper legal authority that hasn't. I'm not really counting on any support from Washington on this issue either ! LMAO !!!

Meb, You are right. It's about facing the truth instead of ignoring it or pretending everything will be okay, which is just another way of ignoring it.

When people think god is in control then many see no reason to change things for the better.

I say if we don't fix it no one will and if we don't take responsibility then no one will save us. We must accept our lives as our own.

I would like to end my days knowing America was a better place for my daughter live, not that's it's been bad for me. But energy independence is in the top five issues that must be meet and tackled in this decade. My trade is currently going through a revolution in materials, sustainable forestry products, water based finishes and composites made from recycled material, with the added advantages of increased duribility and cost savings ! Time to loose the cheesy avitar buddy. Now it's Norty Serious.

Free to see freedom free.
Live and be
What you see
Can't be free
See the tree
Look out for that tree!

Well, I made you look? LOL

I'm afraid norty, very afraid!!!!! I don't see anything working out just fine. I actually was thinking of never becoming a Mother. Not that I didn't want kids. I knew what was coming, and I knew it would get worse. I really don't see anything getting better. I'm not the optimist, the glass always seems empty, even when it is full.

I never really took to that phrase anyhow! Life is what we make of it! It's Heaven or He11 or both! But Scrooge's chain adds up as greed takes over!

Northton it could be worse.
We are blessed compared to the 22,000 dead in Myanmar.

the phrase is wrong...it should be God Blessed America, where else in this great big world could a coward be elected to command the forces he was to much of a wimp to serve with. where else could you speak the way you have about the country in which you reside. Try living in a third world country, where for speaking out the way you have, you would be put to death. God has blessed America, and I personally pray for his continued blessing.

As Tiny Tim put it "God Bless Us Everyone"! The defence rests!

keep you blessings, keep your sins, god does nothing for those who don't help themselves. so, basically you people are saying 1 out of every 100 families have sinned so badly that god choose to punish them... I wonder what that lil old lady with 3 cats did next door to deserve it... I know she loved her cats she was a beastiality person! that sick woman.... heh okay jokes over...

isn't it a shame when we can't meet our goals and for some reason you tell me i'm full of sin when infact it's the sinner holding you down...

not a big god fan, so be it... yet, i am puzzled why a god would ask someone who cared less about him and knew he could never enter his kingdom.. why would such a bein ask such a low life for help. even be told you could never enter my kindom and still continually ask for help. I guess it takes one type of evil to beat another ehh... ponders the meaning of nothing as is was ment to be...

for he is the helper
the unknown
the young lion and the dragon
and the left hand of god

strange...

Nice “spin” but that is what it is...to point at the fact that America is not perfect is not the same a proving it is not blessed...all of the woes you have listed are far worse in most of the world.
Well that and you have misrepresented most if not all the figures you have posted ! 36 million people are “below poverty level” yawn...we have over 40 million illegals working under the table so they are actually making more money than the average standard of their home land (not to mention that the money they are making is not declared ) so they DO NOT COUNT .
1% of all Americans are losing their homes ? Wrong! 1% of all first year mortgages are in foreclosure (that is a 100% increase from the normal .05% ) that is a far cry from 1% of the nation ! More people now own homes than ever before in all American history 70% ! even with your 1% who did not pay any payments.
God helps those who help themselves and no where in all the world does that mean more than it does right here in the USA !

I think that the incresing number of violent crimes is directily your fault Norty. There is no god to blame and due to your influence of enlightening ignorant religious types to that fact, violence has blossomed. You are a victim of your own success. Congratulations, you one Orange wonder. lol

Hey Northton,
What's the old saying
Prayer changes things...BUT people tend to stay the same. I heard one time that unless PEOPLE change the world will never change.

Norty leans to the left (hard!) so it is his outlook to often view “everyone els” as the problem and needing to change. The basic divide is as simple as the “Right” looks for solutions while the “left” looks for someone to blame ....
In its simplest form the natural fact that should govern all action is that “change” always starts with oneself.

...as an example of this principal in play : Northton wants the “government” to force YOU to use solar power....I on the other hand want E85 for ME to use !

You are so right LadyBug.

I love orgygun's comment. To me it says, So what if things are bad, they could be worse so it's okay. LOL Dumbass.

I'm sorry Dida. LOL

You are right, Sig. We have to stop this stupid live of money and just be happy with food and a decent home and a car, and a playsation, and a boat, aaaaaaaaand a pony.

Damn straight, Ronco. We need solar, whether we care or want to admit it. We also need public education. I guess you want that to be an option too? "Hay! My boy iz smart and he dont need no fancy skoolin'!"

Don't even get me started on our “public education system” ...whole dam thing needs to be scraped and rebuilt from scratch ! It just makes me so mad because I believe in the idea of at least trying to get what you pay for !
As far as solar its a dead end ! Will never cover more than 5% of our energy needs no matter how many trillions of dollars we waste on it ... The whole “solar and ONLY solar” strategy that has held us at a standstill for 30 years must end, solar power ranks right up there with saving water and reducing carbon...its a “feel good” distraction from the reality of our problems.
