Hello fellow Bloggers!

This is the eleventh of eleven installments of:

"How to Be A Real American"

That's right, we are discussing Our Bill of Rights (YOUR RIGHTS!).

So far we've discussed the right to free speech, the right to bear arms, and much more. If you're like me, this has been a learning experience because I have never studied our constitution and it's meaning.  This is the final installment of the series.  If you have been following along then perhaps you have learned a lot as well.  If not, then check out my blog archives and catch up on our discussion of the first ten amendment to our Constitution, or just join in and talk about what you think.  Either way, you are invited to speak what's on your mind.

This is a no delete zone.

You have the right to free speech here.

Part One

Part Two

Part Three

Part Four

Part Five

Part Six

Part Seven

Part Eight

Part Nine

Part Ten

The topic is open for discussion.

What do you think?

Are we teaching our children enough about the Constitution in school?

How does learning about the Constitution affect your life?

Will you be more likely to stand up for your rights or the rights of others as a result of knowing what they are?

Do you feel our rights really count, or does the government just do whatever it wants?

Can we expect to have our rights to be respected without hiring an attourney and going to a court of law?

Does the media do enough to inform citizens of their Constitutionally guaranteed rights?

 Do you care?

Too much is dumbed down in public schools.
My daughter complained that they never taught her any geography of the world.
She knew nothing about other countries, differences in cultures, traditions, or famous landmarks.
There are lists of what can not be taught in schools, and you hear too much about restrictions imposed by the ignorant.
All learning is valuable.
Controversial ideas teach students to consider the evidence and think for themselves!
Most adults could not recognize the Declaration of Independence from the Bill of Rights, from the Preamble, from the Gettysburg Address, from the National Anthem.
That is because it wasn't taught to them in school either.
Is it better today? Probably in some classrooms.
In the majority? Probably not.

I saw a bumper sticker that sums it all up : FREEDOM is not FREE ! Assuming that your constitutioinal rights will always be there is downright ignorant.

Hi, Y'all!

You are so right, Meb. Even now that rascal Looking is denying me my right to free blogging! I think that's amendment 51 ain't it? LOL

You are right, Pegi. We didn't learn much of anything about government when I was in school. Mostly the difference between socialism, communism, and democracy, but very light reading. Then again, I wasn't very interested at the time either so I wasn't complaining! LOL

The question of needing to hire a lawyer to defend your rights is another issue, the ACLU ( American Communist Litigation Unit ) in their pompous, righteous, misguided manner of protecting a single individual's right or rights generally runs roughshod over the rights of countless hundreds and thousands. The fact that they usually have to go out of their way to find a plantiff and then coach him in how to claim some injustice is a joke and should be criminally punished. But then the laws are written by other prostitutes in the same profession !

Northton as far as a right to free blogging, there are limits to, of which you are aware. I personally like and agree with most of LQQKING's posts. They are comprised of factual information of which he makes a well reasoned comment about. His posts are neither mindless dribble, hate, rant, infantile, or the irrational condjurings of a youthfull idealist. Nothing wrong there. You come up with some intresting posts as well, some of your humor I don't take to, but then I see no reason to make an issue of it either. I compliment you on some of your posts solely because I believe it is deserved. Nothing wrong there either. I've been known to disagree with Frank, though I agree with a great many of his posts. That doesn't seem to create a proble for either of us. The issue is not always what you say but how you say it. There are several bloggers here on FOX and I avoid their posts like the " plague ", simply for the reason that you cannot have a logical discussion with someone who's touch with reality is non-existant. Just my beliefs on that Norty.

One more thought on the matter is this : the greatest impediment to this country at the present is the current crop of politicians and the job that they do. True change will require that the population first acts on the issues that we can agree on, but in order to do that will require a better understanding of each other. It will not come of it's own, but requires work and an investment of time. Venting your spleen, while personally healthy, isn't a problem solver alone. Time to quit typing now, for the title of " blog hog " I have no desire ! Great post Norty !

I like sharing ideas and ideals in an open forum. I may not like what you have to say but you can still say it here. I try to be fair. I'll often admit that the positions I support have flaws. I detest bloggers who always base their opinions on their political party's rhetoric and never have an original thought. I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I vote for whoever I think will do the best job of running things. I may be wrong but at least I think with my own brain. I think Rush Limbaugh is the biggest and most dishonest jerk that ever lived. John "New Orleans Deserved It" Hagee is somewhere right alongside him. If you like Limbaugh or Hagee then you're ignorant and you suck. Whatever you think, join the blog! Come and debate! Let the politicians know what the public really thinks on an open forum like mine where free speech cannot be denied!
