Just
in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones)
didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be
sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on
what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or
Republican. Facts are Facts!!!
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be
Completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
Incomes into the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to put
Into the Program would be deductible from
Their income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the
Independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the
General operating fund, and therefore, would
Only be used to fund the Social
Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees
Would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
Now receiving a Social Security check every month --
And then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
The money we paid to the Federal government to "put
Away" -- you may be interested in the following:
-------------------------------- -----------------------------
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
Independent "Trust Fund" and put it into the
General fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically
Controlled House and Senate.
-------------------------------------------------------
-------------
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
Deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
--------------------------------- --------------------------------------
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the
"tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the US
-------------------------------------------------------
------------
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving
Annuity payments to immigrants?
AND MY FAVORITE:
A: That's right!
Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
Began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to them,
Even though they never paid a dime into it!

Can anyone understand, with the loss of jobs in the Greater Kansas City Area, and even more job losses on the horizon, that people that are still employed could even consider walking off their jobs? One of the things they are demanding is job security. Doesn't this seem a strange twist, to walk off of a job, that you have, because you want job security? Has it not seeped into their brains that there is no such thing as "JOB SECURITY" anymore.
I would think the thing for them to do would be to bight the bullet, keep working, stop stirring the muddy water and thank God that they have a job to go to. I would imagine there are a lot of people out there that would love to have the problem that they have of drawing a regular paycheck so that they can just barely get by.
Everyone has to wake up and smell the coffee. We no longer live in cush, secure times. Gas and food prices at an all time high. Can anyone else remember the last time food was rationed? I can, it was during the WWII. You had to have ration stamps to by bread, sugar and meat for starters. Gas was rationed and you had to post a lettered decal on your windshield, which had a letter on it to let the gas pumper (the good old days) know how much you were allowed.
Everyone is stuggling with the crunch and are having to bite the bullet. Pull up your big boy and girl pants and get on with it and thank God you still have a job.

I have seen the Pope's visit on TV everyday, on all the local news channels and CNN. He has preached, blessed, administered communion. He has addressed the "sexual abuse" of numerous children, committed by priests and has prayed for them and their families for strength. I'm quite sure that these people are devout Catholics and find it in their hearts to forgive the perpetrator.
I am not a Catholic and do not understand the religion that well. That's what brings me to my questions. Isn't anyone that abuses a child committing a crime? Is it alright for the Catholic Church to move priests from one diocese to another to cover up their crimes? Is it alright, because a priest wears a cassock, that he be free to continue committing these crimes and ruining lives of young people? He is still a flesh and blood man, same as a layman but they don't seem to be arrested, tried and put behind bars like a predator on the streets, an abusive father, or someone posting child porn on the Internet.
All the prayers from the Pope and his messages of strength and faith, although a very nice gesture, cannot take away the pain and suffering that the victims have gone through. Neither can it prevent what continues to be an outrage.
I would appreciate realistic, logical answers to these questions so I can stop searching for ones of my own.

I am confused. I
have been hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the
war on terror that is bankrupting us. It's bad enough but check out

I sat down today to write the checks to both the IRS and KS. ESTIMATED INCOME TAX. After hearing about the Government Employees, with credit cards for business related expenses only, cheating and charging porn, lingerie, expensive meals for 70 personal friends, the millions of dollars handed out to "illegals" and the billions of dollars of profits Exxon Mobile earns and is afforded tax breaks. Not to mention the billions of dollars we're spending on Iraq, while they have billions of their own in reserve. The pork funding, in Washington. Me having to pay $73.00, per month for 1 pill (and that's my co-pay) while the drug companies are cleaning up. THE MADDER I GOT.
So many families loosing their homes. Not able to make ends meet. Jobs lost, from outsourcing, or businesses going belly up due to the economy being in the sewer. Gas and grocery prices going out of sight. This country is going straight to hell in a hand basket.
Doesn't matter if you've worked hard all you life to put away some money to take care of yourself when you retire. If you earn interest on your investments, you're taxed again, even though you paid tax on the money when you earned it. Just like Social Security, taxes were withheld when you paid it in and when you start collecting it, you get taxed on it too.
To top it all off, I can't go out to eat and enjoy a cigarette with my coffee, anymore.
I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not, but I'm telling it how I see it and I am P@&#%* OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After hearing the Smoking Ban passed in K.C. MO, I'm wondering what impact this will have on local economy. How will the small business owners survive? What has happened to "civil rights" of all citizens who own their own businesses to be told what they have to enforce?
I'm sure there are lots of opinions out there and I'd like to hear how people feel about this.

I have never been a basketball fan but as a Kansas native, I'm keeping an eye on them in the playoffs. They're doing so well.
I have a question that's been bugging me, maybe someone could give me an answer. I assume the players are also students. How do they keep up academically while participating in the playoffs? Do they get some sort of credit because they play basketball? How many of them are going to college on basketball scholarships?

I was never a big fan of Martin Luther King and never chose to know much about him. I do have some questions I'm just not clear on.
1. Who's civil rights was he an advocate of?
2. What kind of doctor was he, medical, theology, PhD ?
3. How many times a year does he have to be honored?
These are questions are not meant to be demeaning, I'd just like to get a straight answer or other's interpretations.

I don't live in Missouri nor a baseball fan, but I am curious about something. Exactly who is paying for the two hundred and fifty million dollar renovations to Kauffman Stadium? The Royals have not showed much as being winners, since the George Brett days. When I see the game on TV, there's hardly anyone in the stands.
After hearing so much about layoffs in City Government, not enough police, schools closing and the ones that are open are in pitiful condition. Wouldn't it be smarter, instead of spending millions on such things as Sprint Center and the stadium, to put the money where it is most needed?

After reading the post by jtherron about the way she was treated when the cashier at JC Penney tried to push her into opening a credit card, I decided it was time to voice my opinion on what goes on.
Every where you go they have their own store Charge Card or Visa or Mastercard credit cards. It's like a huge conspiracy to tempt people into the "web of deceit".
There should also be a law against all the credit card predators mailing all there temporary cards offering large pre-approved limits. Even worse than that are the checks you can write for cash advances. That can be really costly. With the economy in the sewer, higher gas and food prices, houses going into foreclosure, families being stretched beyond the pail, how can these vultures lull people into a false sense of security, for their own benefit? It's a crime when there are families having to live off of credit cards to the point that they'll probably never be able to pay them off. It's like a Band aid for a heart transplant.
I use to get, at least 4 or 5 credit card applications a week. I finally got smart and just started putting the blank app. into the return, postage paid envelope and sending it back. I guess they got tired of having to pay the postage for nothing and they've finally stopped.
My husband and I have two credit cards that has our photo on them, for identification, one for gasoline, only and one to use for travel arrangements and we don't use that one but once a year. I pay them in full when the statement arrives so they're not making any money off of us.
Credit is a good thing to have, just be very careful that you don't get sucked into a situation you may regret.

How about Gary Forsee's 22 million dollar severance package? For a company that keeps closing down offices and hundreds of employees off, some permanently, Sprint must be saving a lot of money with their cuts. That's a ridiculous amount of money especially for someone that didn't do much to improve the company.
What do you think?

I really can't understand the hoopla over Obama's passport records being "spied" on. As I hear it Clinton's and McCain's were snooped into, also. What difference does it make unless you've gone somewhere that might be suspicious. If so then you might have something to fear from a "spy". The government sure isn't going to divulge this kind of information and you know the CIA already knows.
Maybe Obama's up in arms and Condolesa Rice said she would be too, is because they feel "discriminated" against. Same old story.
