SIPEDO and YOU

I got this from Yahoo!  What do you think?  I have heard criticism from right here in the U.S. that Barbie has done more damage than good in our culture.  Is Iran right on this?  I would hate to think that Iran could be right about anything, so, are they?

TEHRAN, Iran - A top Iranian judiciary official warned Monday against the "destructive" cultural and social consequences of importing Barbie dolls and other Western toys.

In the latest salvo in a more than decade-old government campaign against Barbie, Prosecutor General Ghorban Ali Dori Najafabadi said in an official letter to Vice President Parviz Davoudi that the doll and other Western toys are a "danger" that need to be stopped.

"The irregular importation of such toys, which unfortunately arrive through unofficial sources and smuggling, is destructive culturally and a social danger," said the letter, a copy of which was made available to The Associated Press.

Iranian markets have been inundated with smuggled Western toys in recent years partly due to a dramatic rise in purchasing power as a result of increased oil revenues.

While importing the toys is not necessarily illegal, it is discouraged by a government that seeks to protect Iranians from what it calls the negative effects of Western culture.

LOL..Booggyman..where have you been? haven't seen any of your blogs lately?

Could it be they found yet more led and that's their excuse so AMERICA doesn't go nuts now searching for Barbie. I have boxes full of barbies and some that date back to 1965..is there a way to have these dolls tested? Interesting..

I personally never cared for Barfbie.

Candy, there is a lead test kit you can get at Wal-Mart. Costs about five bucks and is real easy to use.

Thanks Candy, you can see my beautiful human likeness by looking at my pictures. The doggie is the latest addition to my family, a white boxer. And yes, he's hard of hearing. These used to be throw away dogs.

Candy, if you want, sell those Barbies on Ebay, someone in Iran is bound to bid on them.

LOL Sipedo..I still enjoy playing with them from time to time and NO I am not losing it. They say when you are young at heart..life is good. I believe that now since it does bring laughter to both myself, friends and family when they catch me playing with toys..LOL.

THANKS Crone I will look into that. By the way Sipedo aren't boxer known to get arthritis in the hind legs? My friend has one back in Jersey..beautiful..they just had to put it to sleep (well she was quite old too) but it was hard to watch the dog in so much pain. If you don't already know that, look into it at least to prevent future problems.

It is not Barbies who are destructive to Arab world, it is those vests with the bombs build in that are the bomb!
Besides Barbies are not American, they are Made in China like everything else.
What is really "destructive culturally and a social danger," is the lack of freedom of choice in the Arab world.
If you are not a fanatic, if you want freedom of choice, you are a dead man.
Barbies are about dreams and imagination of little girls.
Being swathe in Black just doesn't spark the imagination.

Thanks Candy, yes, all larger breed dogs are prone to arthritis and hip problems. I also have a chocolate lab that could run into the same problem. I love animals, especially dogs. The boxer is hard of hearing though, but he is a fast learner. I have heard that some large breed dogs like German Shepherds are also prone to having strokes.

On Barbies, I once read somewhere that if the dimensions on Barbie were enlarged to be life size, she'd be 11 feet tall. Has anyone else heard or read that?

Sipedo...I think I heard about that dimension thingy...can't remember where but it wasn't long ago. Yes, I have heard about the dogs..even the rotties are in great danger of developing serious problems. Sad to see these beautiful animals ailing. In any event, I know you will watch over yours and take good care.

I also heard that men from Iraq and surrounding cities are by faith, if they see a naked women, are supposed to kill themselves..MAYBE THAT'S WHY they want the dolls out? Invansion of a Barbie Kind..lol

Hi, I'm a musician, I live in a house and I have 3 dogs. I believe in God and Jesus, and am the most imperfect person in the world. The hand I have been dealt is better than most, but not as good as others. I am blessed to be alive, and looking forward to the day when this body will be replaced.
