Earlier this week Carnival Corporation consisting of: Carnival, Costa, Cunard, Princess, Holland America and every other cruise line operated by Carnival added a fuel surcharge to their cruises. They increased the 1st and 2nd passenger rate by $5.00 per person, per day capped off at $ 70.00 per person. I just got a memo that British Airways is increasing their fuel surcharge another $ 20.00 per flight.

Just an example of taxes and fees and blah, blah, blah...

Roundtrip air from New York to London: Ticket cost is $ 114.50 each way. Add taxes and fees $ 527.29 roundtrip.

Cruise 7 night Alaska  cruise price $ 719.00 per person. With taxes and the new surcharge $ 1083.74. In some cases on short cruises the taxes were more than the actual cruise.

You can bet when gas goes down, these surcharges will NOT go away!

If you have the money for a cruise, and air fare and all of these other luxuries perhaps you aught not be complaining. So, S.T.F.U
Many folks can't afford to fill their car up. Fortunately, I am not one of those folks, but you sound like a class a clod!

Wow! Movealready..that hurts coming from you! Perhaps I should have explained myself better. I am not complaining because these are MY personal luxury trips. I am a Travel Agent, and have been since 1984. Believe me, I cannot afford the trips I sell. My point is everyone is putting their hand out for "fuel surcharges", but when gas goes down (if it ever goes down) those with their hand out will not be so quick to do away with the extra fees.

Mark my words, I am a Republican , and not pessimistic, but these fuel prices are going to stop our economy cold. No money for trip, restaraunts, movies, Holiday travel will decline and less generous gift giving and no more bonuses at work. Let's not forget everybody raising price to make up some of the lose creating a further decline in consumer spending. W.W.R.D (what would Reagan do?) Cut taxes to stimulate spending, why? because it works.

I am seeing that now. Business isn't what it used to be. The very rich don't care about an extra $ 100.00 added to their cruise. It is the people that saved for years for a cabin in the basement next to the elevator that I feel bad for. But you are right.....some people cannot put gas in their car.

Thats sort of funny, I blasted you and I only heard half the story. Now I'm feeling badly. Yes, I feel strongly about certian things. I did not see who wrote the post otherwise I would have thought more about your comment, and possible figure out your job. Things are tough in that line right now. Hope it gets better. I just thought you were some wealthy old beeotch complaining about the fuel prices and not being able to afford that extra diamond on her brouche she'll wear to the Captains table while you and I struggle to keep the car filled up.

Hang in there Glinda. We must do something about the price of oil. Weather its tap more of our own resources, or develop alternate fuel sources to offset reliance upon middle-eastern oil.

I remember that well! Someone siphoned gas from my dad (the cop)'s car when it was parked at a train station. I remember being disappointed because we couldn't go ice skating. My Dad was hoping that the idiot swallowed some gas! Which President was that whole disaster under???? Hmmmmmmm
