I've been to all kinds of Christian Churches in America.  One idea that came into my mind as I sat in an all (or mostly) 'white' church and then in an all (or mostly) 'black' church is that wouldn't it be great if one Sunday they switched Choirs?

I don't know how to bring Americans closer together but I do know that music sung by the human voice is one of the most shared and positive human experiences we all can relate to on a spiritual or hear felt level.

In my travels I've also been to Asian and Latino Christian Churches and thought it best not to finish this without mentioning them.  I've never been to an Islamic Temple or a Jewish Synagogue but they too are Americans and I think it best to mention them as well.  Oddly enough I remember the idea today as I watched a PBS broadcast of 'Celtic Women'.  I was living in Wood River at the time and remembered thinking about buying a ticket to see them in St Louis but couldn't quite fit them into the budget.

Perhaps it's one idea that might bring us all closer together.  Not a time of politics, race or even religion but a time of celebrating life through song and gratitude for what we all share no matter what... a beating heart.

The Choir Exchange Program.

Being a Catholic, which is a code wrong for poor singing, I would embrace a good spiritual choir at Mass. Even in the Liurgy when we sing the Psalms, it is a bit of a rarity to hear a really good singer, that can be understood, and in tune.

I'm not catholic but I do love some of the chants I remember hearing on TV. I think that it would be more than a little interesting to see if it could be done though. Imagine the local Baptist singing at the local Catholic church and vice versa... Though there might be a bit more success with say, a picnic where both the Chiors sing praise in the park. Any number of workable variations but I just know that whenever I've been to the church I was going to and something like a Chior Exchange happened it was really enjoyable... of course folks might have bent over backwards a bit to make it that way but hey! That's cool too sometimes. Thanks for posting dannbetty.

Or town has an annual choir fest for Christmas.

Wright City? Never been there that I can recall... but does this Chior fest well, you know, mix it up a bit?

(I'm trying not to be like I am in my other blogs and comments... Just in case Aunt Susie reads this since she makes the best fried chicken in southern Illinois.)

You know what I'm getting at though. Wouldn't it be great if a few churchs in St Louis that are of one persuasion decided to cross the line, step over the tracks and "One Bright Morning" meets "This Little Light of Mine".

Sometimes one smile between folks can change a whole town for the better. Perhaps even a whole country.

Hey, Trooper! I kinda like this idea of Choir Exchange. Really cool.

They might well come up with some interesting repertoir.

I actually appreciate you for your intelligence, what I know of your faith, and your service. We could be Buds in the Field. I was just a little put off by your insistance in our first encounter. You weren't 100% wrong, but you ruffled my feathers enough to annoy. I've just run into so many unreasoning "God Haters" in the Blogosphere that at certain times I get a little short on patience. I don't lie, though I can be mistaken.

Now, another point to consider in this Chir Exchange idea, it would be strategically ideal to invite the choir of the "watered down doctrine" conregation to visit the more fundamentally founded congregation first, so as to sow good seed before you go into the field. There are a lot of preachers out there these days who are doing nothing but "tickling ears."

Thanks Arky51 - I'm really not doing anything but presenting the idea right now. Fear of loosing congregants to such ministers would be one reason many churches would never consider the proposal.

Thankyou too Freedom Free
