I left Sarasota in 2002 after being diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in 2001 and given 3-5 years to live. I retired from Darrell E. Gerken PSM, Inc., Professional Surveyors and Mappers in Sarasota as the firm's president at age 38. I'm now 90% paralyzed, starting a business venture, have a column in hometown paper and writing a novel. It's never too late! Life is good, enjoy it!
