Obama’s 3 Ring Iraq TripJul 19, 2008 | 5:48 AM

Early morning thought: will those on the Port side accuse Obama of going to Iraq for a photo op? IHT - Media stars will accompany Obama overseas

Senator John McCain’s trip to Iraq last spring was a low-key affair: With his ordinary retinue of reporters following him abroad, the NBC News anchor Brian Williams reported on his arrival in Baghdad from New York, with just two sentences tacked onto the “in other political news” portion of his newscast.

But when Obama heads for Iraq and other locations overseas this summer, Williams is planning to catch up with him in person, as are the other two evening news anchors, Charles Gibson of ABC and Katie Couric of CBS, who, like Williams, are far along in discussions to interview Obama on successive nights.

And while the anchors are jockeying for interviews with Obama at stops along his route, the regulars on the Obama campaign plane will have new seat mates: star political reporters from the major newspapers and magazines who are flocking to catch Obama’s first overseas trip since becoming the presumptive nominee of his party.

I wonder if Obama will have any time to meet with the commanders and troops on the ground? WIll he have some preconditions to meet with General Patreaus? How many photos will they have that make it look like he is wearing a halo? Will Katie Couric ask Obama what’s on his iPod? Will Barry find time to talk to the “insurgents?”

I'm glad to see him go to Iraq so he can see first hand what is going on, but with three major network anchors going with him, will it distract him from seeing what is really going on, will the anchors just show violent areas or will they show the progress.

will Obama have time to talk with the leaders of Iraq and will he talk with the American Generals, the media will not put him in the hot seat they will avoid the tuff questions.

Will this be another staged setting, How will the troops in Iraq handle it.

when he turned down mccain's invite to go together, didn't he say he didn't want it to be an excuse for more politics? isn't this what THIS is?

so, once again, he LIED about something. he wanted to go by himself so he could set the whole thing up HIS way! LOL

he will come back telling everyone what a horrible thing this is & how we are failures & we need to get out of there NOW!

this was his stance when he was invited:

“John McCain’s proposal is nothing more than a political stunt, and we don’t need any more ‘Mission Accomplished’ banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq’s leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge. The American people don’t want any more false promises of progress, they deserve a real debate about a war that has overstretched our military, and cost us thousands of lives and hundreds of billions of dollars without making us safer.”

so, he doesn't want a political "stunt", and he's made it clear he wants to find negative things to see & talk about........so he can come back here & continue to talk about what a failure bush is & then connect mccain to it.

it's going to backfire BIG! what would be REALLY funny is if mccain crashed his little party over there, right in front of all the cameras! LMAO now THAT would be funny!

Will it be "staged"? Just like the way GWB "staged" a hearing on the war where that eunuch BetrayUs played parrot for Bush?

I doubt they'll only go to the "bad" areas. They wouldn't put the presidential candidate in too much danger.

concentrate PB!!! concentrate...
We are talking about Obama and McCain, not President Bush.
I know Obama won't go to the danger zones, I'm talking about the media.

Speaking of Iraq, there aren’t really any “bad spots” or real “danger areas” left there due to the troop surge that Senator Obama opposed, and claimed would not work under any circumstances.

Quote from galvestonsurge: "So this is what it's come to for your biased point of view, eh? Confronted with facts, you suddenly ask someone to prove it, rather than you dis-proving it!" Unquote

Super, regarding the last line about how the actual soldiers will feel about this.

we will never know what's true or not. all we will see & what will be reported is the soldiers worshiping him...........if there are any. lol

Obama will be safe in Iraq and Afghanistan. During one of the reports on NBC last night, there was a shot of Obama and just behind him was a local character wearing a “Taliban Freedom Fighters for Obama” T-Shirt. He’s safe.

Any news on how those bitter clingers in Iraq responded to Obama’s negative comments about people who cling to their religion and guns?

"Will this be another staged setting, How will the troops in Iraq handle it."

About the same as a carrier landing and a "Mission Accomplished" sign.

you two old guys should be able to relate to McCain.

This Was Obamas first trip to afghanistan, this is the war he says we should be concentrating on yet this is his first time there, well I guess he can raise his hand and say present as always.

It must be Hell living a life full of Fear! I know it is hard to believe A black-man will be president, the only people sad about this historical event are a few leftover racist so-called americans. THE ECONOMY IS AT ITS WORSE ! THE OIL PRICES ARE SKY HIGH! THE DECISIONS C/O THE WAR NEEDS RE-EVALUATION,ITS AMAZING THAT SOME FOLKS WOULD RATHER ENDURE MORE OF THE SAME, THAN ALLOW A BLACK-MAN TO GIVE IT A TRY. AFTER THE 50+ PRESIDENTS SO FAR I AM SURE OBAMA WILL MAKE MORE POSITIVE CHANGES THAN MOST !
