My second grader brought this home Friday from school. It is really cool and it worked with both my cell phone and house phone.

What they come up with.....

First, Get a calculator.

1. Key in the first three digits of your phone number. (NOT the area code)

2. Multiply by 80

3. Add 1

4. Multiply by 250

5. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number.

6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.

7. subtract 250

8. Divide number by 2.

Recognize the answer?

Here's another one....

What is 111,111,111 x 111,111,111=

Second grade?

Hi Hillbilly~~
On the first problem your phone number should have shown up for the answer.. if the first 3 numbers of your phone number are 421, that is the number you put in not the area code.

The answer to the second problem should have been 123,456,789,876,543,21.

Pretty bad when second graders can get this huh?..lol..I did not get it at first either.

did it work for you m-tru?
I thought it was pretty cool...especially coming from 2nd grade, my son is in advance math, but I thought that was pretty advanced for even 2nd graders.

How's that for second grade math? Survivormom, is it true your son in second grade learned advanced math in school? In second grade, I learned to add and subtract double digits, but not until the next year did I learn to carry over in addition and borrow in subtraction. Past the middle of the year I was in third grade was when I started learning multiplication and then division.

Yes it's true Buckpenn, my son is in second grade and is in advance math. He is doing multiplication and division already in second grade. My son has an older brother and sister so this helps much. But yes they are learning this stuff earlier and earlier...
