I'm a little concerned about some things, so please hear me out:

Did we not have a satellite in recent years come crashing down in the Pacific - as predicted it would? There was no talk then of blasting the fool thing out of the sky.

We are being told THIS time however that while they cannot predict its landfall location, they are gearing up to blast it to smithereens.

They know WHERE to shoot it, they know the WINDOW to shoot it in, but they are clueless where it's going??????

Why the concern to shoot it this time?

I can understand that letting the American public know something like "Hey, it's gonna' hit the Southeastern US" could conceivable cause a chaotic situation (Oh God, can't you just imagine???), but at least we would have the option of being captains of our own destiny and leaving. (No different really than hurricane season...)

I could understand their caution at releasing the predicted landfall location on another country's soil..."Ooops, we're sorry" and "we tried to tell you" won't quite cover it.

But I'm not thrilled at the idea of that option being taken away, regardless of the greater good. And even if I was told it would hit Florida specifically, we would not leave. But it would be OUR choice.

I'm just left with these questions because of the LACK of details on this one. It's what they are NOT saying. I feel like they are not being as open, and therefore there is more to it than what they have said.

(Wonder if FEMA's doing anything this week?)

I'd really appreciate reading some other views on this.

Then again, maybe I'm jsut reading more into this than there actually is. (These sleepless nights are killing me...)

Have a great day!

They did say that the satellite contained hazardous material. Does that mean being that it is a defense department satellite that it may contain nuke material? Could it be a part of the Reagan era "Star Wars" system and contain missles with nuke warheads? If so, that would explain their extreme concern about this thing entering the earths atmosphere!

It's not nuclear material but hydrazine that is on board the craft. And, no, it's not "part of the Reagan era 'Star Wars'".

It was launched in 2006 as part of a National Reconnaissance Office project (yes, they were going to use it to spy on FTP and chAng). So we can blame this on Bush, too.

Reminds me of the Skylab scare of 1979.

They were able to stear the Sky Lab into the ocean once it started to come down, they probably could have done the same with this satellite. The difference here is the fuel that was on board and this was a spy satellite. I am sure the government didn't want that satellite to fall in the hands of enemy countries. Afterall, you don't want your enemies using your technology to spy on you now, would you?

We have watched Good Day Tampa Bay and Fox News 13 since it became Fox many, many years ago. I've lived on this coast since 1982 but hail from Horse Country, TN. In RL I not only run two websites, but am researching a compilation work for publication (I can disappear for days in my books!) I work with wildlife (naturally Cynthia Smoot is one of my fave journalists!) and I like to participate in the "wildlife" here on the Blogs - a little human interaction is a refreshing change on occasion. However, hiding behind a monitor does not give one license to be rude; personal attacks reveal their maker's own inadequacies and insecurities as a speaker. (Is that the best ya' got???) Thoughts and opinions may differ (thank God for choice as Americans!), but the more reasonable a differing opinion sounds, the more likely the listener is to consider it fairly. Be safe, be fair, be nice - and most importantly, don't run with scissors. They haven't invented downloadable bandaids yet.
