What is everyone else out there thinking?

Are there any raised eyebrows other than my own?

Who is the Lunsford's attorney?

Inquiring minds want to know.............

I am very disapointed. I thought Mark was a really concerned father but now I feel he has got greedy and trying to turn his daughters death into a financial gain. Shame on him..

I am perplexed also. I think the Sheriff is at a loss for words. I hope Mark is not being led around by an attorney and that selfish greed in not mixed into this lawsuit. He said he will hold a news conference next week. I am going to reserve an opinion until then.

No amount of money will ever make up for the loss of a child. I am speechless and hope that Mark has better sense than this.

You know what I was wondering when the lawsuit would come about.....
If I had been Jessies Mom I too would have sued....

You see when they first initially Knocked on coueys door and were told that he wasn't there....They should have done a search immediately beings that he (couey) had NO JOB and was a convicted sex offender....It should have raised ALL the RED FLAGs but somehow didn't!!

I don't know maybe I am wrong but I think I would have done the same...
Had they done the search when the problem first arose Jessica may still be ALIVE!!

Just MOHO

I was under the impression in yesterday's broadcasts of the press conferences that IN THE TRIAL it was proven that by the time the Sheriff's office was notified, it was already too late to save the life of poor Jessica... the coronor determined she was already gone by the time law enforcement was notified.

Hmmmmm.

I'm w/RandyLoo. I'm waiting to see before forming an opinion.

I was reading a blog from the SPT about this and most of the people were ripping him a new one.

Perhaps they should wait til they have the facts before they insult him?

He may have a case.

Why do we tie up the court's time with stupid lawsuits?

I really feel for the man, he has done and is continuing to do so much ggod for the cause, Unfortunately all of the time it has taken him to fight for the cause may have put him into a financial position he doesn't know how to get out. And we know all about "certain" attornies who are just waiting for a case like this. I too hope that he isn't being led down a dark path.

Geez, I thought he was ready to get on with his life. I guess not. Maybe he needs a hobby; this action sure won't help the hurt, will it?

I offer two points that should be considered. There are money grubbing attorneys who are just looking for clients to make a buck. On the other hand, I would be fuming as a parent that this creep was out on the loose. I have to say, there is an EXTREME failing of the system here........ If Couey "Mr. Monster" had been monitored PROPERLY, he would not have been on the loose to MURDER ANY CHILD!!!

This creep was on the loose.... He had not been accounted FOR!!! I just feel Law Enforcement dropped the ball here. They are responsible to keep track of theses creeps.. If they don't have enough people to keep track of them then DON'T RELEASE THEM!!! I have said this before on one of my own blog, "Lock the sex offenders/predators up, protect the children.".

The creep/murderer's rights were put above an innocent child.. How many kids are going to have to endure Jessies fate???? Too many for me.... If you can't keep track of them - DON'T RELEASE THEM!!!! :+( - :+(

Let me say one DAMN thing right now there are good and bad cops on every force but when it comes to a child that is missing ESPECIALY when they know a sick bastard such as Couey is close by they go into overdrive!!!The clock starts ticking the moment that call goes out,I know a few cops that have been involved in such cases they get a sick feeling just as soon as the call goes on the radio.DO NOT blame them you need to start with the ones who let these monsters out of jail!!!! State Attorneys,Prosecutors, and most of all those limp wristed winnie Judges that turn them loose!!Leave the officers out of it period.

Good point.

Sadly, there is a vicious cycle... We WANT these creeps locked up and the key thrown out, but where is the money for the new prisons it would take going to come from?

It's the same scenario with enforcement...we have underfunded law enforcement agencies who ar sincerely outnumbered. The actual number of law enforcement agents we would need to track these predators and offenders, would be astronomical... Why don't we add the lovely electronic bracelts/anklets to the predator/offender wardrobe?

Again, money... And some bleeding hearts activist group that would holler about these poor creeps' rights being violated.

It's gonna' take A LOT of money and A LOT of legislative consensus BETWEEN the states to ultimately gain control of this situation.

As it stands, for every creep we KNOW about, how many are there we don't?

And EACH ONE presents a lawsuit such as this, waiting to happen.

BTW, exactly WHERE does the money used to settle or pay out on lawsuits such as this come from and WHY is it not actually being used INSTEAD to enforce the law?

There is something entirely too s-backerds in all this.

How about self responsibilty for your self and your family. The American people better wake up that the government will not always be able to protect you and unjust lawsuits are not the ansewer.

Mark Lunsford should look in the mirror if he wants to blame someone for his daughters death. Had he been home the night she was abducted, instead of shacked up with a woman, Cooey probably would not have had the chance to molest and murder Jessica. For him to prosper from his shortcomings as a father is absurd.

I seem to recall that Cooey was at a relatives house and not where he was registered...hence the cops had NO IDEA that a sex predator was living there! I want to know about her dog...those lil dogs bark at ANYTHING...were the grandparents deaf???? if so then he should have been home and NOT left her there.. I think the lawsuit is someones way of getting $$$$...and if he wins..who is paying??? US the tax payers, So I guess he is technically blaming ALL of us!

Neckcarjim & HandyManDan: THANK YOU. I was thinking these very thoughts...As parents, we are ALL responsible. I hope the attorney for the defence brings these valid points up.

Lovebandit: Now there's some attention to details! More excellent points raised.

If these are the questions WE as "mere observers" can raise, one would hope that these, along with others, will be brought to the table when it is time.

It's time we take a good long look at parental accountability ... For every child we hear about in the news whose parents left them unsupervised, how many do we NEVER hear about?

Jesse was not home alone. Why do people keep saying that? She was left with two grandparents. How many times have we left our children with parents or other caregivers? I lived in a town where one night someone came into the house murdered one teenage daughter, beat their 11 year old brother into a coma, and kidnapped another 15 year old daughter (she was later found raped and murdered and her body hidden not more than a 1/2 mile from her home. All of this while their father slept in an upstairs bedroom with a TV on (he was an leg amputee and once in bed he rarely got up). Their mother worked the graveyard shift as a nurse and found them when she came home at 7am. The police kept drilling this father. Then they found out it was a drifter who had gotten a job as a school janitor. He had become infatuated with the younger girl and followed her for days, watched the house and on that frightful night he cut phone lines and went into the house to carry out his murderous plan. Strange things do happen and it is not anyone's fault but the perpetrator.

I see some of those limp wristed winnie Judges that turn them loose are double dipping into the state getting pensions and pay checks, and know it. They know the law better than anyone and can do anything they like. They are the ones he needs to sue, they are nothing but blood suckers and they all need to be kicked out of office and have a new type of judge, one that works for the people and not for his or her own advantage, YES I AM upset with the way the use there power,

Randyloo, lovebandit didn't say Jessica was home alone. I think the point lovebandit was trying to make is since there was a small dog there (the kind that is notorious for yipping nonstop if so much as a marshmallow is heard to crunch) how was it the grandparents who were home never heard anything?

Don't know about any other parents out there, but my "mom" hearing can pick up on a canary fart in the middle of the night. ;-)

We have watched Good Day Tampa Bay and Fox News 13 since it became Fox many, many years ago. I've lived on this coast since 1982 but hail from Horse Country, TN. In RL I not only run two websites, but am researching a compilation work for publication (I can disappear for days in my books!) I work with wildlife (naturally Cynthia Smoot is one of my fave journalists!) and I like to participate in the "wildlife" here on the Blogs - a little human interaction is a refreshing change on occasion. However, hiding behind a monitor does not give one license to be rude; personal attacks reveal their maker's own inadequacies and insecurities as a speaker. (Is that the best ya' got???) Thoughts and opinions may differ (thank God for choice as Americans!), but the more reasonable a differing opinion sounds, the more likely the listener is to consider it fairly.
