Good for Geno's Cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, "Please order in ENGLISH"  its about time someone took a stand at muliti lingual, for those who do not know someone took Geno's to court in reference to ordering cheesesteaks in English.. Guess what "GENOS" won the case, its time others took the stance..

That also goes for "Bank of America" if they're going to conduct business in Spanish then they should also conduct it in French, Italian, Russian, German, and any other language thats spoken in the world today.

ENGLISH IS  THE LANGUAGE OF THE  USA FOR EVERYONE!!!

Do what you like at home.......

PS: The technicality that won the case; was that Geno's never refused to serve anyone.

Anyone can learn how to say cheesesteak if they want one badly enough and that goes for everything else in America. If you want it badly enough, know how to say it in a way everyone can understand or do without.

I love Geno's!! Everytime I go to Philly to visit my old college roomie, we stop by there, but she has to order for me because if you don't order right they'll send you to the back of the line. Some kind of special "Philly Steak Ordering Lingo" but I'm all for the sign! If they can learn to say Welfare in English, they can learn to order a Cheesesteak!

I for one am very glad they won that case!!! Speaking of the Bank Of Mexico Boogymann have you seen the commercial that played not long after there scam was reported. All the ppl walking up to the BofM sign and it reflected what they could be,the first person in that clip looking at the sign was mexican.I had my house painted a couple years ago and the crew was mexican thay spoke to each other in spanish only and when you ask them a question you got a stupid look but when I offered them some beer after working hours or mentioned money boy did the english fly out of their mouths.

Welcome to america now here we speak in english! Hooray for GINOS!!! You know they get affended enough to take them to court. Now when we go over to their domain why are we carrying around little translation books or looking for someone to translate? They don't convert for us!Think about it.

Mexican official to give St. Lucie Spanish-language textbooks

By CARA FITZPATRICK
Palm Beach Post

The St. Lucie County School District and the Consulate General of Mexico in Miami plan to announce Monday a plan to distribute free Spanish-language textbooks to five schools, create some sister-schools and, perhaps, expand after-school tutoring options for parents with limited English-speaking abilities.

The partnership was established by the district''s Hispanic Advisory Council.

The Consul General of Mexico in Miami, Juan Miguel Gutierrez Tinoco, is scheduled to attend a press conference and ceremony at 5 p.m. Monday at the school district offices in Fort Pierce in which he will deliver the textbooks and discuss the partnership. He also plans to visit Oak Hammock K-8 School in Port St. Lucie.

"We''re very excited about this alliance we''ve created," said Ginger Miranda, chairwoman of the Hispanic Advisory Council. The council, made up of community members, advises the district about issues related to the Hispanic community.

The consulate will give 50 textbooks each to five schools, including Oak Hammock, Forest Grove Middle School, Port St. Lucie High School, C.A. Moore K-8 School and the new Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition.

Several schools were selected because they had a high number of Spanish-speaking students; Port St. Lucie High was selected because students in its new International Baccalaureate program will study Spanish as a second language, she said. Palm Pointe was selected because of its focus on research.

Port St. Lucie High also will correspond with a sister school in Mexico as part of the International Baccalaureate program.

The textbooks cover core subjects like math, science, history, geography and literature, and will be used by both students learning Spanish as a second language and by Spanish-speaking students learning English, Miranda said.

School officials also hope to use materials from a Mexican program, called Plazas Communitarias, for the district''s existing after-school tutoring for Spanish-speaking parents. The after-school program, offered by several schools, allows parents to learn or improve their English-language skills alongside their children.

Plazas Communitarias could potentially be used as a supplement in that program - the goal being to improve the English-language abilities of parents who, in turn, can help their children with schoolwork, Miranda said.

"The main point is to have them become literate," she said. "Our aim is to build a bridge between the school system and the parents...the best way to do that is through literacy."

In Mexico, Plazas Communitarias, when completed successfully, can provide the equivalent of a high school diploma.

Today, news reports that the school district would be offering "Mexican diplomas" created a firestorm of controversy, but school officials said they have no plans, or ability, to offer such a certificate.

"The material comes from that program, but we''re not going to be giving Mexican diplomas," Miranda said. "We''re not the Mexican government."

Southmark,

Well! I'll be darned, I know all the place's you mentioned and more. I was raised there and I still have relatives in Barry.

I live at St Paul’s Avenue opposite the Memorial Hall; was schooled at St Barauc's and Gladstone. Moved away from Barry in 1957 to Luton, Bedfordshire.
Attended Merchant Marine Academy in Gravesend but because of the declining British shipping situation, left seafaring and was picked up by General Motors (Vauxhall) in Luton until 1963 thus onto New Jersey and Florida in 1980.
So that’s some of my history, loved Barry had great times there especially in the summer when the valley girls would visit for the day.
Last time back was a few years ago but only found a few hours to spend in Barry and that was at the Ship Hotel and at an elderly Aunt home to pay respect..
So more from you, perhaps an e-mail address so I can e-mail you so we don't bore the Blog users, who are a great bunch of people....

By the way the " Old Vic" collapsed a few years ago, maybe it inhaled to much of the great Welsh beer through the walls!.
